The Cool Call of Dawn on the Singaraja Coast

There’s a kind of alarm you’ll never hate. At Happy Beach, Singaraja, that alarm is the gentle roar of the waves and the call to a dawn adventure. At five in the morning, while most of the island was still asleep, we stepped onto the cool sand, heading for the jukung boat that would take us to the home of the sea dancers.

On the Jukung, Towards the Outdoor Stage

The boat’s engine broke the morning silence. The sky in the east slowly changed color, from deep indigo to purple, then to a saga red. The salty sea air felt refreshing on our faces. No tall buildings, no traffic jams. Just us, the vast ocean, and the promise of a thrilling encounter. The boat captain, a local fisherman with a friendly smile, pointed in one direction. “Over there,” he said simply. Our hopes soared.

The Moment Arrived: The First Silhouette on the Horizon

And then, we saw it. One black fin broke the water’s surface, then two, then ten. My heart pounded. They weren’t far away. The boat’s engine slowed, making room for them. Suddenly, a dolphin leaped high out of the water, its body glistening in the first rays of sunlight. Then others followed, as if performing a choreography they had practiced for thousands of years.

Not Just Seeing, But Feeling

The moment felt surreal. The clicks of other tourists’ cameras seemed to be drowned out by the dolphins’ distinctive squeals and our cries of awe. This wasn’t just watching animals; it was the feeling of being guests in their world. Seeing them swim nimbly alongside the boat, leaping freely without any coercion, was a reminder of how beautiful nature can be if we take care of it.

An Unforgettable Dawn

As the sun rose and the dolphins began to swim away into the deeper waters, we returned to the beach feeling filled not only with visual beauty, but with positive energy and an overwhelming sense of serenity. Breakfast at the beachside stall tasted even more delicious that day.
